Christmas Tableware, Dinnerware And Plates: Santa Plate Family Traditions
63The Meaning of Family Traditions
Christmas tableware plays a big part in our memories. We all find ourselves longing for the simplicity of our childhood as the Christmas season approaches. Family traditions, which often included Mom's treasured Christmas tableware, of festive gatherings and seasonally transformed rooms comfort our senses. Many of my most treasured memories revolve around leaving out the cookies for Santa. What I wouldn't give to still have my "Santa plate". Apparently my Mom didn't realize how precious her Christmas tableware would become to us in our adult lives when she threw it out once we were grown.
Building family traditions has become an important part of raising my children. Not having many mementos from my childhood strongly affected my approach in creating traditions within my own little family. You've probably begun to assume that each of my kids has their own little Christmas plate that they used as a child when leaving out cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve. You would be right, of course they did. Now that they're grown, as they begin creating their own family, I pass on each one's little plate to them to keep as their own and continue the Christmas tradition with their own toddlers. Brings tears to my eyes to know how many precious moments these little plates will be a part of for so many, many years. **Tip** - Santa always leaves a few crumbs from his cookie scattered across the plate.
The Importance of Your Christmas Dishes
Whether you are shopping for an entire set of Christmas china or just a few Christmas plates to add a festive touch to your table, be aware that the items you purchase today may be passed on for generations to come. It's easy to forget how your children may feel about the dishes they used during the holidays. You can preserve their childhood imagination by storing these dishes away after you've grown tired of them. In the future, when your kids begin parenting their own children, then bring them out and return to your children the dishes that will transport them back to the wonder of Christmas's gone by.
Whether it's just one tiny, inexpensive little plate or an entire collection of expensive Christmas china, the importance of the meaning is the same.
It's never too late to start a tradition of this sort for your children or your grandchildren. Giving a gift of Santa plates or a small stocking stuffer of a Santa mug will be a treasured memory for someone's small child.
Beautiful Christmas Dinnerware Ideas
Spode Christmas dishes are an elegant choice for the holiday table. The joy of bringing them out each year for a single month is well worth the effort you'll put in to seeking the collection that fits your tastes.
If an entire set of Christmas dishes is a bit overwhelming for your decor, take a look at some of the beautiful, elegant tableware pieces that you can buy. Adding a cake plate or a few serving platters that are designed specifically for the holiday season is simple, understated way to decorate your dining area for the season.
Most importantly, choosing carefully enables you to add to your Christmas tableware collection through the years. It's not necessary to go out and buy an entire collection at once. Choose a color theme and add a piece at a time as the seasons pass.
Many people find that if they begin a particular theme, they will begin receiving gifts of new, single pieces from their friends and family. This is a great way to add more sentimental value to your tradition of holiday tableware.
Shop around during the holidays and you will be sure to find unique, single pieces to add to your holiday dish collection. This is a fun way to add a single piece at a time and also saves you the large expense of buying an entire set at once.
Christmas Pottery Choices
Purchasing hand-crafted Christmas pottery at local craft fairs can be a great way to shop during the holidays. Most areas host craft fairs in the fall to promote local artisans. Finding an artisan that specializes in Christmas pottery is a wondrous thing. Building your own collection of hand-made pottery for the holidays can become a seasonal event.
This type of collection, passed on for generations, would truly be appreciated by your family. Knowing that it's not mass-made and unique to the region you live in will add extra value to this type of family tradition. Who wouldn't love and cherish Great Grandma So and So's collection that she worked so hard to find and preserve?
Enjoy your holidays and I hope you begin some new Christmas traditions for your family this year!

What a nice hub. Both of us have treasured 'objects' that remind us of our childhood. Pat remembers a special Christmas tablecloth - but no idea where it went.
Your advice to store things is so good! Thanks.
Wonderful hub. I agree with you. It's nice to begin Christmas traditions with our children and grandchildren.
