I understand why you're searching for quotes about moving on. Life is hard at times, there is no doubt about that, but meeting it head on with an open mind will propel you through the worst parts. Many of us search for moving on quotes because we are stuck in a period of pain or suffering that we are having difficulty with passing through. Inspirational quotes give us some insight into our suffering and reassure us that we’re not the only person that has gone through this before.

We all grow emotionally at different paces relative to our life experiences. This is why some famous quotes don’t mean a darn thing to us and some seem to be speaking directly to our hearts. The more varied our life experiences become, the more apt we are to feel the recognition of truth in a particular quote. This is exactly why some of you may find great meaning in the following Buddhist proverb and some of you may have very little understanding of what it is truly saying:

“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear”.

Until you’ve traveled through enough experiences in your own life, you won’t see the correlation between

a) recognizing truth and wisdom in the words you read because you are finally ready to understand due to a life experience of your own

versus

b) not having a clear understanding of the lesson of the words in front of you if you’ve never experienced the emotions based on that lesson

Given enough time, most of us will reach a common understanding of the words. Much of this emotional understanding comes naturally with age but many of us fail to recognize the emotional growth opportunities of our most desperate moments. My understanding of this proverb is that once you are ready, and a lesson is necessary at a particular point in your life, a situation will appear that will be your opportunity to move forward with understanding, wisdom and grace. For this very reason, we should all embrace every experience we have in our lives no matter how stressful or unpleasant. Each experience we're given is an opportunity for growth and peaceful reflection. Avoiding these experiences and not learning from them will keep us in a cycle of continuously repeating the very emotion we're trying to avoid.

Quotes About Moving On From The Past

  • "Giving up doesn't always mean you are weak. Sometimes it means that you are strong enough to let go" ~Author Unknown

No person survives their childhood unscathed. Our childhood is fraught with some scarring memories for many reasons. Life is about learning from our experiences whether we had any control of the experience or not. As a child, we were carted along on whatever path the adults in our environment were on. Learning to give up on any anger, hate, or disappointment that may be haunting you due to a traumatic childhood event does not mean that you are agreeing with the way you were treated. Letting go of the negative emotion you have is taking back your ability to love yourself with no strings attached.

Your life doesn't have to be about the previous people who may have played a part in screwing up your life. You can't change your experience but you can change your perception of your experience based on acceptance and understanding. This change in your perception is what will take away the power that someone else had over you; the power that you yourself have been giving them.

Point blank, there will be people in your life that do not have good tools when dealing with others. That's their issue, not yours. Find it within yourself to forgive the experience so that you can find happiness and joy in your own life. Sometimes it is necessary to step back from particular individuals for a period of time. There is a lot to be learned from the phrase "first do no harm".

"Consider how much more you often suffer from your anger and grief, than from those very things for which you are angry and grieved"
-- Marcus Antonius.

In my 30's I finally came to understand that my parents were human beings. They never tried to purposefully hurt me, they simply didn't have very good skills in raising children. As soon as I learned not to take any of the past personally I have become a calmer, more loving person. I'm not the angry, resentful, person I once was and I have learned to trust others until they give me reason not too.

"Do not teach your children never to be angry; teach them how to be angry"-- Lyman Abbott

Use your childhood experiences that scarred you to better parent the young people in your environment. Teach your children to be vocal about how they feel in a calm, honest manner. Children are the tiny beginnings of every adult; help yours to be healthy adults with appropriate tools to create a confidant and happy life.

Life Quotes About Moving On From Revenge

"While seeking revenge, dig two graves - one for yourself" --Doug Horton

Human nature is to lash out at anything that causes us pain. Dwelling on that pain, or the person that caused it, will create a cycle of revenge in your mind that will waste your life. Some matters get handled legally, some matters are taken care of with an apology, and some things just happen and there is no recourse available.

Harboring anger and resentment in these situations will take more from you than the incident that occurred ever could. Learn to let go. Letting go doesn't mean laying down and being a doormat. Letting go of thoughts of revenge that consume your brain is for YOUR benefit, not the other persons. Hell, that other person has probably never given you a second thought and here you are thinking about them 24/7. Don't let them take your life from you on top of everything else.

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"-- Mahatma Gandhi

'Nuff said right there^. Learning to manage your ego, your jealousy, and your self-esteem will entirely change your perception of the world. We don't learn these skills in school and the majority of us did not learn these skills as children. Appreciating that you know more about life now than you did as a child should also enable you to realize that you have the potential to make huge strides in managing your personal emotional growth by researching further.

My pivotal moments of understanding the simplicity of "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear" occurred after reading a few books by Miguel Ruiz. I highly recommend The Four Agreements. He has follow up books based on what you will learn from the first three and I refer to them frequently in my own pursuits of understanding myself better.  You'll want to have all of them if you enjoy the first one, The Four Agreements.  They are truly outstanding books!

"Without forgiveness life is governed by an endless cycle of resentment and retaliation"
-- Roberto Assagioli

Take some time to think about the true meaning of these words. Try to come to terms with the power that you are giving to others to control your life when you carry resentment and continually ponder getting revenge. There is no better revenge against others than becoming the best person you can be and never wasting another precious moment of your life contemplating them.

Letting Go of the Merry-Go-Round of Sadness

"We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." -E.M. Forster

Sometimes things happen with the people you love.  When they choose a different direction that doesn't involve you, you must learn to let them go.  Loving them enough to freely let them learn the lessons they must learn in their life does not have to include your suffering.  Sometimes you have to step back and remove yourself from a loved one that is struggling with themselves.  No one can be in charge of another persons happiness.  We are each responsible for our own happiness.

"I used to believe that anything was better than nothing.  Now I know that sometimes nothing is better" --Glenda Jackson

A common occurrence is repeating the same destructive behavior in a relationship.  It seems that after multiple episodes of fighting and/or abuse, many of us lower our standard of how we believe we should be treated.  Don't let this happen in your life any longer.  Many times we're better off alone.  Repeating the continual process of negative behavior in a relationship will eliminate any chance you will ever have of a healthy, happy life.

"Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
-- Albert Einstein

Step back and observe what has been going on in your most stressful of friendships and personal relationships.  Are you allowing yourself to remain stuck in toxic situations because you fear losing that person more than you fear losing your future?  No person on this earth is worth that choice.

Witty Quotes for a Change of Pace

"If you fish in the toilet, you're gonna catch a turd" -- P.J. Swesey

Okay, maybe a bit harsh, but there's a lot of truth in the above quote. Sometimes we simply get used to ridiculously repetitive behavior in the people we surround ourselves with. If these people don't cause you stress or other negative issues, great. If their drama and inability to manage their own lives is creating undue drama in your life, make a different choice in the type of people you surround yourself with.

You can't change other people's behavior unless they're willing to change. Don't give up your life in an attempt to fix another person's inability to deal with their own life. This doesn't mean that you don't love that person or care about them. It means that you care enough to not participate in their lack of ability to change their own lives. Personal accountability is a powerful force.

"IF you hold a cat by the tail you learn things you cannot learn any other way" -- Mark Twain

When something hurts bad enough, you have a natural instinct to let go. Living with continual emotional deficiency in a relationship lowers your ability to measure what is and is not acceptable in a relationship. Valuable lessons are learned from this type of relationship but remaining within the relationship with no change in someone's behavior is not healthy.

Place a higher value on the importance of who you spend the precious moments of your life with. Each human on this earth deserves respect and honor but that does not mean that you should ever accept disrespect and dishonor pointed at yourself.

If you're interested in my writings you may be interested in some of my guest posts about why I hate my job and what I did to change the way I felt.  Working in an environment that stresses you out is a sad way to waste your precious life.  Finding a way to change that environment is one of the most beneficial things you will do for yourself your entire life.

Quotes to Ponder

"Never miss an opportunity to make others happy, even if you have to leave them alone in order to do it" --Author Unknown

"Always when judging who people are, remember to footnote the words "So far"--Robert Brault

"To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you" -- Lewis B. Smedes

"You can tell more about a person by what he says about others than you can by what others say about him" --Leo Aikman

lol! Well, I hope you've got long enough "arms" to protect yourself from the immediate damage. If so, maybe the cat will calm down and learn to love you instead of trying to kill you. Either way, there are some things you'll never learn until you try. Good luck! :)

Very nice "comment" Miss D. It's always enlightening when we get to the other side of bad moments and are able to look back and understand ourselves better and then we can move forward with peace. I hope you meet each new day with strength and appreciation.

Oh Anisa, I'm so glad you felt some enlightenment through reading these words. Stepping back from someone we love that causes continual pain is so difficult. Love yourself more than the other person. I highly recommend The Four Agreements, also The Mastery of Love (same author). I think you'll find a huge change in your level of peace through reading them. Learning to love unconditionally and receiving unconditional love in return will change how you approach life. Good luck my friend. Be calm

what we really need to learn in letting go is the ability to live in NOW...TODAY....PRESENT...

this is sometimes forgottn so easily as we dwell in past or future, if we learn the power of NOW we can be a better person.....i loved your style its direct, witty and penetrating..
